BASTA – Call to Action

Survivors of clerical sexual abuse demand concrete justice, not symbolic gestures: the immediate creation of a government-administered reparations fund, fully financed by the Catholic Church, to guarantee that no survivor of historical clerical abuse is forced to live in poverty.

Financial reparations must come first, before apologies or expressions of remorse. They must be grounded in established scientific and health-economic consensus on the lifelong harm of childhood sexual abuse and translated into material support that endures for life.

  • We call on the Catholic Church to accept full institutional responsibility and to demonstrate, starting today, through its financial decisions, that it is preparing to finance this fund.
  • We call on politicians to set up this fund for victims of historical sexual abuse by members of the Catholic Church without further delay and without additional cost to the taxpayer.
  • We call on the public, believers and non-believers alike, to be a hero and join us in our call for justice. Only fair and swift reparations will allow a way forward, in the interest of survivors, the Church, and society.
  • We call on other victims to join us in saying BASTA. We have had enough. Until the fund exists, any dialogue with the Church must be rooted in protest. We did not consent then. We do not consent now.

Join us today. SAY BASTA!
